Wolfgang Puck Express

by Lauren Wallis-Major Disney World Lover!

Disney in January is one of my all time favorite places. The crowds are smaller, the weather is gorgeous, and traffic on I-4 is slightly more bearable. We arrived at Downtown Disney at 5:45pm. By the time we had walked down to Wolfgang Puck Express (the one next to the Earl of Sandwich, not next to the higher end WP) we were now at 6:30 pm or prime time dinner rush.

The concept is to order food like counter service, but a waiter brings you your food when ready, refills drinks, and clears your table. They also get anything else you need, like extra dressing, napkins, or cheese.

We waited a long time in line…it was 7:05 before food was in front of us. There had to be a good 20 people in front of us and at least the same behind us. The door remained open the whole time to accommodate the number of people. The cashier was super friendly and not afraid to recommend her favorite selection, which I chose to order. On the cash register, the pictures of the four most popular entrees were there in full color, most likely for non-English speakers.

After asking to switch out my parmesan chips for French fries (and was told that was not allowed), I still decided to order the side of fries. I also grabbed a brownie in a cellophane package at the register.

I had Rotisserie Beef and Gorgonzola Pocket (house roasted Niman Ranch rotisserie beef, Gorgonzola, red onions, chopped Romaine, Roma tomatoes and Horseradish Caesar $11.95)
I had to take a bite out of it even before I snapped my picture…a big bite! It was a seriously messy, but seriously delicious meal! The roast beef was perfectly red and not very fatty, the onions never overpowered the dressing, and the dressing was just enough to cover the entire contents of the pita. The gorgonzola was very tangy and the basil tomato pocket was delicious, however it did not stand up to the amount of food put into it, so using a fork was necessary.

My dining companion has no problem eating my chips!

Herb-Seasoned French Fries $3.95
I loved the fries, as well. They had some fresh herbs and a little tangy dressing on them. Perfectly crisp and hot when brought to me.

My dining companion had the Meatball and Parmesan Pizza (Niman Ranch meatballs, fresh basil pesto, mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, tomato-basil garlic sauce and fresh basil $13.95). Apparently Niman meatballs are supposed to be better and they do post a note about the exclusive type of meatball they serve, but he said that it was just a good pizza. I did not try it, so I cannot add to this, but did take a picture for fun.

I wish I had remembered to take a picture of the brownie, but by time I had finished my ENTIRE plate, I basically inhaled the brownie. It was PERFECT! There were whole chocolate chips and it was fudgy and gooey and firm at the same time. The only problems I had was that it was a bit granular because there was so much sugar in it that it never properly dissolved. It also could have been cooked just a minute or two more.

A very nice meal overall. I was also admiring their Chicken Caesar Salad. I am not the type to order a salad when out, mainly due to the fact that they rarely fill me up. (I LOVE to eat and I do it well!) But, it caught my eye and when I asked the woman who was eating it if she minded if I took a picture of her food, she looked at me like I was a weirdo…so, next time! Chicken Caesar (Roasted all-natural chicken breast marinated in Wolfgang's signature seasoning, tossed with crisp romaine, dressed with Caesar, house-made croutons and Grana Padano Parmesan $11.95)

I also admired the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla. BBQ Chicken Quesadilla (Flour tortillas filled with mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, red onions, fresh cilantro, Ranch dressing, BBQ sauce and pico de gallo $10.95). It was HUGE and was served with a choice of side salad. Surely enough to make 2 people happy!

I am looking forward to returning there. They accept the Disney Dining Plan as a counter service credit and are open and serving breakfast from 9 am to 11am daily.

I am sure to go back for the Crispy Cornflake French Toast ($8.95) and Applewood Smoked Bacon Pizza (scrambled eggs, Niman Ranch Bacon, mozzarella and cheddar cheese and Ranch Dressing $8.95)…and who knows? Maybe, I’ll order both!

Rating: 4 ½ of 5 stars.

Thank you Lauren for your submission:-)
