Downtown Disney - West Side
Wolfgang Puck Cafe in Downtown Disney's west side is a very modern and fun place to dine. Although this establishment is not "Disney-owned" it still offers a nice variety of menu items. Most of the Downtown Disney restaurants are not Disney owned but that doesn't mean they aren't good;-) We have dined here on a few occasions and have never been disappointed with the food. Our last visit however was a bit disappointing when it came to the service. It was a very busy night and the wait staff AND the kitchen seemed unprepared for the business that evening which being in such a high tourist area during the summer seemed rather odd to me. Being that we have been here quite a few times prior I will leave it as being a "fluke". So, in all fairness I will review this restaurant on the "average" visit that we've had and then add a few comments about some of the food we've had during some of our other visits. Upon seating we are normally greeted by the server who takes the drink order and then arrives back with a nice basket of bread and crispbread.
It is really difficult not to order their "signature" Butternut Squash" soup which is always excellent. It is a rich and creamy soup that has "comfort" all over it!
I just couldn't help but take a taste before I took a photo of it (sorry about that!) On this particular visit it seemed to be a "salmon" night. I actually wanted a salad with salmon. This isn't on the menu but they were able to use their mixed green appetizer salad and make it a bit larger and add a piece of the Chilean salmon to it which was very good. I like the goat cheese crostini on the side. It is served with a citrus vinaigrette which is fruity and light. The salad was plentiful, yet light.
My husband ordered the Chilean salmon dinner which was a center cut filet of Chilean salmon accompanied by saffron whipped potatoes, asparagus and basil butter sauce. The salmon was very good and tender but cooked through. You don't really need the sauce since everything is so tender and the potatoes are very rich and yummy.
Even my daughter hopped on the salmon wagon and ordered the salmon from the childrens' menu which she liked so much, I couldn't take a photo fast enough before she sunk her fork in it! It is also quite a deal at $5.95. We've also had other items we've enjoyed here like the Chicken Aioli Pocket which consists of sliced chicken breast with mozzarella, chopped Romaine, diced tomatoes, and red onion topped with cilantro aioli. This is very delicious and I believe it's only on the lunch menu. Also at lunch they have wood fired pizzas. I've had the Margherita pizza which has roma tomatoes, basil and cheese. My husband enjoyed the Italian sausage and roasted red pepper pizza. The pizzas are fairly large so two people can actually split one especially if you order and appetizer and a salad. The food is good here and is reasonably priced. With the exception of our one visit I mentioned earlier I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant. It would be a good idea though to make a reservation especially for dinner as it can get rather busy.
