Contemporary Resort - The Wave - Dinner

The Wave is a fairly new restaurant at the Contemporary Resort. It is located on the ground floor where the old snack bar/food court and arcade used to be. It was renovated in a fairly contemporary atmosphere with an art deco flair to it.

We waited only a few minutes for our 7:00 pm reservation time. We actually have dined here twice and enjoyed it very much both times although I recall leaving the second time feeling a bit more full than the first time we visited (maybe that wasn't a bad thing? ;-)

When you enter the seating area is on the right and the bar is behind the hostess area. The bar is very modern and contemporary;-)

Here are some views of the seating area in the restaurant, very simple and somewhat modern, but comfortable.

Once we sat, I took it upon our server's recommendation to try the Abita Beer flight. They have many microbrewed beers here so my husband and I gave them a try.

I don't recall the names of each one:-( but I usually like amber ales. The one in the middle was my favorite. The dark one was a little to bitter for me. The gold ale on the right wasn't bad either.

First we started with their signature fresh multigrain bread and rock-salted butter. This is maybe what I had too much of the second time around ... LOL!

We split the The Wave Appetizer for two which consisted of Lump Crab-Florida Rock Shrimp Cakes and Sautéed Sea Scallops. Both were very flavorful and delicious. I could actually make this a meal with a salad...LOL!

I had the Avocado and Citrus salad with field greens, tomato, avocado, orange segments and orange vinaigrette. This was very refreshing and light salad. It was also a generous portion (as I said I could have stopped here;-)

My husband had a mixed greens salad with edamame and flax seeds in it. If I recall correctly this salad was also topped with a bit of mozzarella cheese and tomato. It had a lite vinaigrette dressing. It was almost like a lite caprese salad with some healthiness added in, the healthy part is what made it unique and even more delicious.

My daughter started with the kid's salad which was basic with cucumber and carrots. I believe it did come with tomato but my daughter didn't want that. She got the ranch dressing on the side. This was a nice size salad for a kid's item.

My husand ordered the Apple Brined Pork Tenderloin with bourbon sweet mashed potatoes, warm spinach-bacon salad and sassafras jus. This was delightful. The pork was so tender and the spice was perfect. The spinach salad was the perfect accompaniment rather than a creamed type spinach this just made it so much fresher and light. But, honestly as light as the flavors are, this dish is quite filling:-)

My daughter ordered the kids pizza which she loved. She was in a very veggie mood tonight so in addition to her salad she orderd the green beans and carrots which she also liked. She said they were very fresh and not too crunchy. (she likes her veggies over cooked but this seemed to make her happy).

I ordered the fish of the day which as I mentioned earlier was, arctic char. It changes from day to day with this fish and mahi being the most available. It is listed on the menu as "Today’s Sustainable Fish" with Edamame Stew and Cilantro Chutney.

And the edamame stew is sooooo delicious. I wish I could find the recipe. It really makes this dish. It is basically edamame, corn, green beans in a lite but VERY tastey broth. I'm not sure how it would go with mahi or another fish but it went just perfect with the char. I even had this the next time we went. I was lucky it was available as they don't have this fish all that much. It's probably the best arctic char I've had anywhere! I order this whenever we go here. The one day they have different fish that I don't particularly "love" I will finally try something else on the menu (for myself LOL!)

Then came time for dessert which I had to try after seeing it brought to some of the other tables.

What is so lovely about this dessert is that each item is a small amount with just a few bites but it can still be filling (especially if you're already full;-)

There are a few trio desserts but with my chocoholic tendencies I went for the "Decadent Flavors" which was a trio that consisted of the Chocolate Mousse with Salted Caramel Sauce, the Lemon Cornbread with Vanilla Panna Cotta and the Blueberry Compote with Yogurt Gelato. Loved the chocolate mousse and even the Blueberry Compote but I could have skipped the Lemon Cornbread and made the other 2 larger LOL!!

Now my daughter went for the kid's vanilla gelato sundae. I think she enjoyed playing with it more than eating it as she does with most of the Disney sundae dishes.

Still a nice ending to a delicious and healthful meal. We've now dined here at least 4-5 times for dinner and have always had a great experience. The food has been consistently excellent as has the service.

I love that they have a restaurant like this on property that is more geared toward the health conscious. While many people like to eat whatever they want on vacation I am in the minority as I try to eat as healthy as I can most of the time. But trying to healthier doesn't mean giving up taste...and The Wave will definitely prove that to you.

The Wave is becoming increasingly more and more popular. It has a nice variety for everyone and it is reasonably priced for a restaurant of this caliber in comparison to the many other restaurants that in my eyes just aren't as good;-) (for those not on any dining plans it's a great option to eat upscale for a reasonable price).

And for breakfast I give it a triple thumbs up!! That review to come shortly:-) The best breakfast (as well as best breakfast value in WDW!!) And now there's a buffet to try all of their delicious wake me up fare, mmmm, can't wait to see that:-)
