House of Blues

HOB

From the outside the House of Blues looks like a rundown shack, hence, that is theming;-D The water tower looks rusty and old and at night the sign is light it in bright blue.

There is more to this restaurant than just the restaurant as there is a concert hall as well and they offer a fantastic gospel brunch which we have yet to experience. But, I've only heard good things about it.

We have been here twice and enjoyed it both times. It's a fun place to dine. I do recommend reservations as when we've been here in the summer it was more than an hour wait, but we only waited about 10 minutes because we had a reservation. The restaurant itself is not real large. The seating is all booths around the edges and tables in the middle. In the back there is a nice size bar area.

The decor is definitely bluesy and rustic and you can't miss the engraved faces in the ceiling which will keep many busy guessing during your time there.

On this particular night there was just the 2 of us. We started with the Creamy Spinach and Artichoke Dip which was served with Roasted Salsa and Sour Cream with red and yellow tortilla chips. This was good and plentiful. Service was speedy and friendly.

My eating partner order the Blues Burger which is a fresh ground beef patty on a gourmet bun with french fries. Quite simple really. It was your usual standard cheeseburger and fries. She was going to get the kids burger but was told that they have to cook the kid's burgers medium well because of restaurant policy. She prefers medium, so if you order it from the adult menu you can have it cooked the way you like. I thought that was rather strange being that it was still being eaten by a kid and it wasn't stated anywhere I could see on the menu. It is also served with lettuce and tomato but she didn't want that. She was happy with her choice.

I ordered the Grilled Flat Iron Steak Salad which I substituted chicken for the steak. It was topped with Black Beans, Grilled Corn, Diced Tomatoes and nice big chunks of Avocado which I love. The Cilantro Ranch Dressing which I had them put on the side was a nice combo of ranch but and cilantro which adds a more home made touch. This salad was very good and fresh. I liked the fact that had mixed greens rather than the standard iceberg lettuce.

Although the food was pretty much standard fare you could get at local chain restaurant, House of Blues did add some of their own touches. The atmosphere is fun and very casual.

They do have quite an extensive menu, from burgers to fish to pasta to meatloaf. And of course the couldn't forget the jambalaya or the shrimp po-boy:-D.

Many items can be blackened or even rubbed with cajun spices. So if you like spicey you'll like House of Blues. And if you don't, there should be enough for even the pickiest eaters to choose from.
