Garden Grill - Character Dinner

This is a really fun place to dine. Not only is it a unique restaurant in THE LAND Pavillion but it's also a character meal.

The food at this establishment is served "family style". Instead of getting up and down having to get your food at a buffet the food is brought to you. And it's "all you can eat" so make sure to go to this restaurant...hungry!

This is one of our favorite places to dine in Epcot. The characters are a lot of fun and they even spend some time at your table. They are also in dressed in their "Land Themed" oufits. Mickey has his farmer hat and overalls. Chip and Dale have had their overalls on some visits and Pluto, well since he's a pup he just kinda dresses like he always does, in his best orange fur;-).

Also keep in mind that this restaurant is circular and it actually revolves around and you can actually see some of the scenery from the Land ride as well as here the music and sounds from it if you sit on the "lower" level. You can request this choice when you check in at the hostess stand. You can barely tell you're moving because it moves very slowly. It takes a good hour to do a complete circle around, so this shouldn't be bothersome to anyone who doesn't like movement while they're dining.

Service is usually pretty good here although we've had a few visits where the servers sometimes seem to disappear for long periods of time especially later in the night.

The meal starts off with a basket of baked goods and butter from the finest home baked farm house. Butter is made fresh daily with the cow's...ok, I'm getting carried away, I'm just trying to go with the theme. On the day we visited this is how are meal went. Note that menu items are subject to change seasonally at this restaurant.

First, we got our basket of bread which had fresh assorted rolls and cornbread....

Then came this nicely mixed greens' salad with tomato, cucumber and a creamy buttermilk ranch dressing. The nice thing about this restaurant is that most of the food they serve is grown or farmed in their greenhouses and fisheries. You'll see this if you ride The Land ride.

Now since it was just me and my daughter who ate from the kid's menu, they brought me a plate with all of the selections. If there are 2 or more adults they will bring your food in a skillet. Of course if you are solo you can ask for 2nds (or 3rds and beyond) of whatever item or items you would like:-) One plate was enough for me;-)

adult dinner

There was roasted turkey breast with a cranberry orange sauce, mixed veggies consisting of green beans and carrots, corn bread stuffing, squash and grilled tender salt and peper flank steak and it was all sooooo yummy!! "Comfort food" for sure!! I was stuffed after the first round LOL! And there's also fried catfish and creamy mashed potatoes that aren't shown here.

And for the kiddies...

kids plate

The best of both worlds for the kids. Home made mac and cheese, chicken fingers and french fries. Not sure what child woudln't like these choices, heck I liked these choices LOL!! This wouldn't disappoint any child;-) Of course they can eat the adult food if they want.

But don't forget to save room for dessert!

apple cobbler

This was probably the best apple cobbler I've ever tasted! It even had melted butter on it. The sad thing is that it's not served very often. They also have a strawberry shortcake which is pretty popular if you like strawberries. They also have a few other baked fruit desserts. It just depends on what's available that night so their dessert is subject to change.... a lot. I've had their chocolate bread pudding which was out of this world!!

For the kids they they have worms in dirt (aka: pudding with crumbled cookies and gummy worms), a platter with sugar cookies and various things to decorate them with (sprinkles, icing, etc) or a cupcake with the variety of decorations like what they offer on the cookie plate. Again, this is subject to change. I'm not sure how they rotate these items but don't get your hopes up for one particular dessert item because they change all of the time.

Dale

Dale was being silly on this visit. He kept playing with my daughter's "Minnie" santa hat. I kept telling him to turn it around because the "bow" belonged in the front. He didn't realize he was wearing a "girls" hat until he took it off and he put his head in the table because he was embarrassed. Oh what fun!! If you are a big Chip and Dale fan this is probably one of the only meals in Disney World now where they both appear. At one time they were everywhere at the character meals. Now they're getting tough to find.

This meal is always great experience all around. I highly recommend a visit to the Garden Grill. The only complaint I have is that they no longer serve lunch:-(

Dinner typically starts around 4:30. I recommend making a reservation if you can. Also keep in mind that there is special holiday pricing during the peak holiday time. Make sure to check the official Disney website for details if you're not on a dinng plan.
