Cape May Cafe

Cape May Cafe is one of our favorite breakfast spots so we almost always make a reservation for every visit. Most times it is good and our last visit didn't disappoint. They have a nice variety of food and it is usually quite fresh.

This review is a general review of the many visits we've had there.

And of course what makes it even more irresistible is that it is a CHARACTER breakfast, but it is one that has a reputation of being a more "laid back, relaxing" character breakfast. At this time there are only 3 characters most times but it does change periodically.

Most recent characters include Minnie, Goofy and Donald Duck in swim/beach attire to go along with the Beach Club/Yacht Club theming and it is quite cute. I do however, miss the days of Chip and Dale being there. Nothing against Donald of course, but Chip and Dale were quite fun. It then got to the point where it was Chip OR Dale and then they decided to send them back to their tree and pull Donald out of the pond;-D

Walking in this is the area to the left of the entrance. The restaurant is nice a bright with a very relaxing and casual atmosphere.

As you walk into the restaurant there is a buffet set by itself which has bagels, breads, english muffins, donuts and even lox and cream cheese. There is a toaster there to run your bagel of breads through if you like them toasted.

Walk in area buffet

The main buffet is one big square really with 2 sides opposite each other offering similar HOT items. Then the 3rd side has fresh fruit items and opposite there is the "goodie" side with all of the danish, crossiants, cereals and other fresh bakery items. On the corner between the bakery items and more hot items including Mickey waffles and sometimes they have these blintzes but they were soaked in fruit sauce. They're actually sweet enough without them.

hot buffet

The hot items offer scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, pancakes, biscuits and gravy and if I recall some type of yummy banana bread pudding. The one thing I do miss on this buffet is french toast of some kind. There is none. Would like to see them add that one day.

There is granola by the fruit side (sorry, no photos of the fruit, but there is plenty along with yogurt and cottage cheese). Fruit offerings usually include melon, orange segments, grapefruit segments and berries of some kind.

dry food side

At one time they used to have the most amazing fresh squeezed orange juice but not anymore. The juice is good (but I was told by a source they no longer squeeze it themselves;-( Service is usually good. Before they put the toaster in the front and you wanted your bread or bagel toasted it was sometimes a VERY long wait and then it would return rock hard so I'm glad to see they put the toaster up front.

The characters make their way to your table within a fairly quick time as this restaurant isn't overly large. You can usually be in and out under an hour and have seen the characters. I do recommend reservations though. The longest we've ever waited was maybe 15 minutes (with reservations) but it can get very busy even during the off season so it's best to make those ADRs.

If you're not areal big fan of the character breakfasts because they can be really noisy and sometimes a little chaotic this is a good one to go to because it's probably the calmest of the all of the character meals. This is great for all ages, families with little children, families with older children or those who don't have children and even empty nesters.

This is a very convenient breakfast for those guests staying at the Beach Club, Beach Club Villas, Yacht Club or any of the other Epcot area resorts. You can walk or boat here from all of the resorts in the Epcot resorts' area.
