Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom-Lunch

We had an ADR for lunch at 2:00 and didn't have to wait long for a table. For anyone who has not been to a Rainforest Cafe you are in for a treat. The decor is a fun, jungle theme with a little animal show every 10-15 minutes where the (fake) animals all make lots of noise with a thunderstorm in the background. But, be warned, for small children this can be a bit intense and scary. I couldn't take my daughter here when she was little because she was afraid of the thunder and even more so, she was afraid of the apes that made their noises during the show times. But, now that she is older it's not an issue.

We started with the typical spinach and artichoke dip appetizer which came with tri-color tortilla chips, pica de gallo and was prepared with a monterey jack and parmesan cheese combination. It was pretty much "typical". It wasn't great, wasn't bad. Next time I think I'd try the Chili Con Queso or the Lava Nachos.

For lunch I had the Jungle Chop Salad which was romaine and iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, red cabbage, candied pecans dried cranberries and grilled chicken. It does also come with olives and blue cheese but since I'm not a lover of either of those I left them off. I had my dressing served on the side which was a raspberry vinaigrette. Since I am a salad lover I love to order salads and this one didn't disappoint (much better than the app;-)

I enjoyed it very much. It was a generous sized portion (which it should be at $16.29) and everything was very fresh. The dressing was not too overly sweet but I would advise getting it on the side because if they put too much on it would definitely overpower the salad. A very good salad but it should include shrimp instead of chicken for the price;-)

My husband ordered the Rumble in the Jungle Turkey wrap which is shaved turkey breast with roma tomatoes, bacon and lettuce tossed in a caesar dressing served in a large flour tortilla. It was served with cole slaw and fries. Another typical wrap you could pretty much order anywhere. It was good but also a little pricey at $14.99.

Daughter ordered the dinos with fries. Nice large portion. Cooked just the way she liked. Fairly priced for the portion at $6.99.

All in all Rainforest is a fun place to dine if you've never been there. I think it's well overpriced for lunch and what they offer for those prices. Next time I think I'd try Yak & Yeti or Tusker House which isn't much more as far as cost but Tusker has a lot more to offer especially for lunch at only $4 more.

If you have a Tables in Wonderland card or even a Rainforest card it's a good option. I believe it is also on the dining plan. It wasn't busy but it is an hour out of your park time if not more.

I do have to admit I really miss the old Tusker House as it was quick but probably the best "counter" service restaurant in all of parks. I think Animal Kingdom still lacks in a good quick service restaurant with adequate seating and selection.
